Ways to travel

Exceptional stays & escapes

Sometimes the most meaningful part of a journey is having nowhere else to be.

Rest is not a lesser way to travel. A few days with no alarm, no schedule and a view you never tire of can be exactly what a journey is for. Slowing down lets you notice more: the light changing over a lagoon, a conversation with the family who run your guesthouse, how good breakfast tastes outdoors.

The places themselves can be very different. It might be a remote lodge in Torres del Paine National Park, a small family-run guesthouse in the Sri Lankan hills, a private villa above the sea in the Algarve or a ryokan with its own hot-spring bath in rural Japan. Comfort doesn't have to mean grand. What matters is that the place feels right for you and the way you want to spend your time.

First, we listen. Then, we explore what's possible.

How we approach it

  1. 01

    Understanding how you rest

For some, rest means a book by the pool; for others, a morning walk and a cooking class. We ask first, so the place fits the way you like to unwind.

  2. 02

    Fewer moves, more time

We keep transfers short and stays long enough to settle in, so you're not repacking every other day.

  3. 03

    Choosing with care

We look closely at location, rooms, food, season and who a place suits, and we'll tell you honestly when somewhere lovely isn't quite right for you.

Ideas for a journey

Illustrative ideas, not bookable products.

  1. 01

An island with nowhere to be

A week on a small island in the Maldives: snorkelling on the house reef in the morning, nothing planned after lunch.

  2. 02

    Ryokan nights in rural Japan

A few nights in a ryokan in the hot-spring villages of Kyushu or the valleys around Takayama, with kaiseki dinners and early-morning baths.

  3. 03

    A villa in the Algarve

A private villa near the cliffs of the western Algarve, with days divided between quiet coves, lunches in fishing towns and the pool.

  4. 04

A family guesthouse in Sri Lanka

A small, family-run guesthouse among the tea estates of the hill country, with home cooking and walks through the plantations.
