Guatemala
A lake ringed by volcanoes, pyramids rising from the jungle and a Maya culture that is very much alive.

Guatemala is one of those countries that leaves a vivid impression through its people and its colours. In highland villages women still weave by hand, and each village has its own patterns and palette. On market days the squares fill with flowers, fruit and the scent of incense, and church steps become a place to meet.
Distances are modest, but the landscape changes quickly: from colonial Antigua, framed by volcanoes, to the shores of Lake Atitlán and the humid jungles of Petén, where Tikal lies hidden. It's a journey for those who want not only to see but to understand — with a guide who knows the Maya world well.
Experiences to consider
- 01
Tikal in the Petén jungle
Towering Maya temples rising above the canopy, howler monkeys and toucans. Early in the morning, while it's still cool, the sounds and light of the jungle are something special.
- 02
Lake Atitlán
A mountain lake watched over by three volcanoes, with shoreline villages reached by boat. Each has its own mood, from weaving cooperatives to quiet yoga terraces.
- 03
Antigua between volcanoes
Cobbled streets, ruined churches and courtyards draped in bougainvillea. For the more active, an overnight hike up Acatenango volcano with views across to neighbouring Fuego.
- 04
Market day in Chichicastenango
One of the best-known highland markets, where textiles, masks and vegetables meet age-old rituals on the steps of the church of Santo Tomás.
